What Are the Available Engine Options of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

As we pointed out, the 2020 Grand Cherokee has four engine options to choose from, some of them only available on select trim levels. All engines are mated to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission, which provides quick acceleration, precise shifting and enhanced fuel economy. With this variety of engines, the Grand Cherokee can fulfill most transportation needs and fit into a wide range of budgets. Let’s take a closer look at each powertrain:

3.6-Liter Pentastar V6 Engine

This powertrain comes standard from the Laredo all the way up through the Summit, offering a great balance between performance, efficiency and driving enjoyment. It delivers up to 295 horsepower, 260 pound-feet of torque and can tow up to 6,200 pounds. This engine also features Electronic Stop/Start technology, a system designed to improve fuel efficiency by shutting the engine off when the vehicle comes to a complete stop. Models equipped with this engine and 2WD earn an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city, 26 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg combined. 4WD drops all figures by 1 mpg.

5.7-Liter HEMI® V8 Engine

This powertrain is available from the Limited to the Summit trims. It provides up to 360 horsepower, 390 pound-feet of torque and a maximum towing capacity of 7,200 pounds. This engine also incorporates a fuel-saving technology that automatically deactivates four cylinders for maximum efficiency when eight are not necessary. The EPA estimates its fuel economy ratings in 14 city mpg, 22 highway mpg and 17 combined mpg.

6.4-Liter SRT® V8 Engine

This high-performance engine comes standard on the SRT, the sportiest trim of the roster, and provides a horsepower rating of 475 and a torque rating of 470 pound-feet. Thanks to this amount of power, the engine is capable of towing up to 7,200 pounds. The Quadra-Trac® Active On-Demand 4×4 System provides exceptional handling in almost any condition. The powertrain also features five dynamic drive modes: Auto, Sport, Track, Snow and Tow. Each setting adjusts how power is distributed to the front and rear wheels to maintain traction in various terrains. Fuel economy drops to 13, 19 and 15 mpg respectively.

Supercharged 6.2-Liter V8 Engine

The ultimate engine is reserved exclusively for the Trackhawk, the most powerful and quickest SUV ever. This sublime powertrain delivers 707 horsepower, 645 pound-feet of torque, and can tow a maximum of 7,200 pounds. Like the 6.4-liter engine, it comes equipped with the Quadra-Trac® 4×4 System and the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System so that drivers can explore the less traveled road with ease. As you would expect from a turbocharged engine, it doesn’t provide the most efficient ride, but still manages to earn an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 11 mpg city, 17 mpg highway and 13 mpg combined.
