How to Change a Flat Tire near Dallas, TX

Driving around Dallas can come with its share of challenges, such as flat tires. These common occurrences are nothing to stress over, as long as you’re prepared with the right tools and knowledge to get your vehicle back on the road. Read our guide below, and don’t forget to stop by Freedom Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram By Ed Morse for new tires when the time comes!

Essential Tools

The first step to addressing a flat tire is to gather your tools. It’s critical to already have these items in your cargo area so you’re prepared for the unexpected when you’re on the go. You’ll need a jack, lug wrench, and tire pressure gauge. Of course, you’ll also need a spare. The part that many forget about is keeping this replacement in optimal condition, including keeping it at the correct pressure level. In case your donut is underinflated, it’s a good idea to keep a portable tire inflator so you can pump it up as needed. Some people also choose to keep a set of wheel wedges on board as well, though this isn’t strictly necessary. It just offers stability on uneven surfaces.

Taking the First Steps

If you’ve gotten a flat tire on the way to White Rock Lake Park, don’t worry—just pull over somewhere flat and away from heavy traffic. You’ll be able to order a real replacement from our Parts Department later. With your tools assembled, grab the wrench and start loosening the lugs on the wheel of the flat tire. Then, place the jack in the place designated in your Owner’s Manual. This spot is usually reinforced and well-balanced to hold the weight of the vehicle, so it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions here. Use the jack to lift the car several inches above the ground. When it’s up, use the wrench to remove the lug nuts fully.

Finishing Up

Now then, it’s time to remove the old tire and replace it with your spare. Align this replacement carefully, then start partially rescrewing the lug nuts in by hand in a star pattern. Use the jack to lower the vehicle back onto the ground. Use the wrench to fully screw the nuts back into place. To ensure you’re ready to drive, use the tire gauge to check on the PSI. If it meets the recommendations listed in your Owner’s Manual, you’re good to go. However, we don’t recommend hitting I-635 just yet. Spare tires aren’t to be used above 50 MPH. You should also limit the length of the journey, as they are typically only fit to be used for no more than 50 miles. It will need to be replaced by a suitable tire that’s built for durability. I had the pleasure of working with Travis Moody today. His knowledge of the task at hand was second to none. I had tires swapped out and he mentioned a deal where I could get two tires free! I immediately took him up on that offer instead of just replacing two tires. He made sure that everything was taken care of, and in a timely fashion. I would have to say this was my best experience at a dealership to date.

Y’all keep it up!
